There’s something quite magical about heading up and away into the hills when others are heading in the other direction. Doubly so on a sunny day with clear skies. A route to try in such conditions leads from Grassmere up Sour Milk Gill, past Easedale Tarns, past Sergeant Man and up to High Raise. It was here that Smoke was captured, just as the sun was setting and a vapour started to pour into the valley below, an inversion in the making.
