Crimp was captured in 2019

Sycamore Gap wasn’t much referred to or known about as a point of interest pre Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The wall’s appearance in the film was very special to the people from the local area. As the film was shot, there were rumours of Kevin Costner visiting a butchers in a nearby village for a pound of bacon. You can imagine the tension.

Since the film, the gap became very popular, and in a nice British way like the Bake Off or the act of queing, in that it wasn’t exciting or something to base any major decisions around, but it was nice, harmless, and a point of reference that people from all over the world could point to.

‘Crimp’ can be purchased here as a fine art giclee print. More information on sizing options, production process and shipping is available lower down this page.

The conditions were as bland as they get, and with the famous tree being captured so often and in so many different ways, it almost didn’t seem worth taking a shot. Looking at the scene as a whole, seemed to be the only approach that might work. An attempt to give the tree some context.

Crimp was an attempt to capture Sycamore Gap differently. It has been shot so well be so many people and in so many different ways, simply adding another image that mimics the others wasn’t an option. This capture sat on the harddrive unseen for many years before being processed, but seemed apt in its darkness and sombre tone once the tree was gone.

  • All prints ordered through The Wynd Photographic are fine art prints. That is to say, they are produced using the giclee process in combination with a smooth, archival, 300gsm cotton based paper by Fotospeed.

  • Once a print has been ordered, it is either produced by Pete in his own workshop or, if scale dictates, via an independent local print house he collaborates with regularly. Pete oversees all printing before performing quality checks, adding his signature, and packaging the finished work at the Wynd Gallery.

  • Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee a set turnaround time for an online order. Each client and order is slightly different and may require a particular approach to production. Wherever possible, we aim to complete and dispatch orders within 7 days of them being received.
